Equine Therapy with Registered Clinical Counsellor

Anam Cara Farm and Learning Center is host to Unbridled Potential and Empowered By Horses. With a philosophy founded on equine knowledge and herd dynamics these experiential programs empower and enliven children and youth.

Whether you are new to partnering with horses or have been riding for years, all of Unbridled Potential and Empowered By Horses’ teachings are grounded in the practice of heart-centered leadership.  Create the life that you have imagined through embracing your internal power, connecting with heart wisdom and celebrating the YOU that will lead the way.

We have a wide range of options to suit your needs:

Heart Centered Horsemanship
Equine Partnerships based on Compassion, Mindfulness & Leadership

In Heart Centered Horsemanship students learn the practical skills of caring for and riding a horse including liberty work, stable management, equine psychology and horsemanship (western). What makes Heart Centered Horsemanship (HCH) different is that students are encouraged to be in partnership with their horse from their very first interaction.

HCH’s focus is on building relationships and developing connections while creating an environment that considers the horse’s perspective. With Carla Webb as your guide, students step into the hooves of horses and not only become better riders but see the world through equine eyes. In this way students learn to care for horses, other animals on the farm, and themselves while nourishing compassion and empathy.

Each student/horse combination is unique and the instruction follows the flow of that relationship. Students and horses alike experience a gentle, supportive and encouraging learning environment free of pressure and expectations.

Heart Centered Horsemanship improves horsemanship skills while providing a solid base for students to create positive healthy relationships in all areas of their lives.

The Focus of Heart Centered Horsemanship

  • Horsemanship skills through cooperation rather than competition
  • Mindful interactions with your horse partner whether grooming or competing in an arena
  • Compassion for yourself and with your horse partner in the learning process
  • Clear and conscious communication with your horse partner
  • Strengthening of observation skills to better understand the equine perspective
  • Decision making and leadership skills explored through self-awareness, observation and practice
  • A safe environment where challenges are faced with compassionate support
  • Enhanced empathy and compassion for all beings

Carla Webb has partnered with horses for over forty years. She has extensive knowledge and showing experience in reining (traditional and freestyle) and both western and english disciplines. Her beliefs are founded on kindness and it is her passion to build positive relationships between students and their horse companions. Read More

Equine Facilitated Wellness Programs (EFW)

Individuals and Groups

The focus of EFW sessions is healing, growth and empowerment. Although an equine facilitated wellness session is not psychotherapy or counselling it is a learning experience that promotes self awareness; social and communication skills; and tools for coping with personal challenges, decision making and problem solving. EFW is based on research that suggests being in nature and connecting with animals is not only a gentle and effective way to foster self discovery and healing but that horses actually support that healing. EFW is currently used all over the world in therapeutic work with war veterans, people with autism and traumatized children. While EFW works well alone, it is also used in partnership with mental health professionals.

Horses are excellent teachers in practicing mindfulness, setting healthy boundaries and learning to live in community. Other benefits include:

  • increased confidence and self esteem
  • improved communication and social skills
  • increased empathy for all beings
  • a knowledge of what healthy attachments are and how to achieve them
  • a sense of belonging and connection
  • a renewed resilience and courage to be oneself
  • a deeper understanding of how communication can extend beyond the spoken word

Carla Webb is an EFW professional, an Eriksonian life coach and an Equine Guided Development facilitator. Her approach is founded on a gentle and nurturing acknowledgment of each person’s uniqueness. Read more.

Sessions are $90 plus GST/hour and may include ‘take home’ activities or practice
