Joe Webb was the principal of my junior high school in Port Alberni. He was also my father. Together with my mom they encouraged my love of horses and inspired me to follow my dreams. At work Dad was a progressive and skillful administrator. He was one of the first to introduce school counsellors and, although he kept a tight ship, he was passionate in supporting youth to become the best they could be. At the young age of fifty-five he died from a sudden heart attack. I was fourteen at the time.
Like my father I believe in supporting and providing youth with opportunities. Since Empowered By Horses was created seven years ago I have often dreamed of creating a scholarship program for kids in his name. That dream has finally come true.
Empowered By Horses is passionate about providing a safe, nurturing place for youth to learn, heal and grow. With this common intention in mind, I am thrilled to remember my dad and honour his memory with this scholarship.
