meet the cats
Jasmine (born in 2003)
Sometimes referred to as the Anam Cara antique, Jasmine has been the centrepiece of the house for years and years. She and her sister, Sophie, were born barn cats and we adopted them before we founded Anam Cara from the Langley Animal Protection Society. Unlike her sister, Sophie, who disappeared in 2012, Jasmine has always been a homebody, quite happy to stick around the house and yard rather than going on adventures. She loves snuggles and lets you know, and everyone else, when she is hungry. Jasmine is a sun-worshipper and spends her days perched upon a table watching the world go by. She is a true legend being on this planet for 21 years and counting.
Batman (born in 2012)
What a story Batman tells. A neighbour found him as a tiny, sick kitten on a country road not far from the farm. Not knowing what to do, he called us, the local animal lovers. We took this tiny creature in with loving arms and, after eating a small, easily digested meal, he curled up into a little ball and fell asleep. The next day Steve took him to the vet and when he returned there was no doubt that Batman, as the clinic named him, was staying.
Batman is what a therapy cat could be defined as. He loves visiting people whether it be walking with or sitting with them in stillness. He can also get playful with nighttime hide and seek games or playing with River and Rye. His character is large and his heart even more so. He is loved more than black licorice ice cream … and that is saying a lot!
Chelsea (Born in 2009)
Chelsea was born just days before we moved to the farm. Her momma, Firefly, was a feral cat and protective of her new kittens. Noting this, I took opportunities to play with them, to get them used to humans, while momma was out hunting. Steve picked Chelsea out of the litter as she was the smallest and potentially the weakest while the rest were given to wonderful families.
Chelsea is an avid barncat hunter and cuddly-inside-girl all in one. In her younger days she was quite the adventurer and put on many miles in a day. We once thought we had lost her … for exactly a month she hid in the neighbour’s garage after experiencing a fright. Returning a bit thin and skittish she came back to herself in no time. She isn’t fond of being picked up but loves to sit on a lap, on her terms, of course.
